Why a Swimathon From President Peter Goldstraw

The Outdoor heated swimming pool at the top of Dartmouth provides a different and complementary facility to our new indoor pool. Whilst determined swimmers can go to the outdoor pool to exercise and put in the lengths, its grassy banks and open skies are perfect for relaxed, family-based activities centred around the pool, not just in the pool. The outdoor pool traditionally opens on the last weekend of June each year so what better way to celebrate its 2019 opening than coming along for a family Swimathon organised by Dartmouth Rotary to raise funds for the pool and other charities.

The event on Saturday the 29th of June is the first Swimathon held by the Rotary Club of Dartmouth and we hope it will turn into an annual event. We are sure that the community will enter into the spirit of fun and create a unique event for our wonderful town. We are particularly looking for Schools and Youth Groups to participate but please remember it is open to every member of the family.

The event consists of teams of 4 – 6 sponsored swimmers and we ask that each team swim for a total of 45 minutes. It is not a race nor a competition (officially!) but just an event to enjoy with your friends and families. There are 10 sessions during the day and each session will have 4 teams participating. In other words we hope to get 40 teams and between 160 and 240 swimmers.

The team will choose to which charity they wish to donate 20% of the monies raised, 25% will help support the outdoor pool for the rest of the season and the rest will go to the Rotary Club of Dartmouth Charitable Trust, enabling us to support good causes in the community and disasters throughout the world.

Finally, may I thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing you on Saturday 29th June.

Due to unforeseen circumstances this event has been cancelled

We hope to bring this event to Dartmouth really soon

Thank You.
